TRADITIONAL ETHIOPIAN COFFEE CEREMONY Cultural Ritual of Enjoying Coffee in Ethiopia Setting of a traditional Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony Coffee, Ethiopia’s gift to the world, was discovered from the "Kaffa" area in Western Ethiopia. The Ethiopian Coffee (locally known as "Bunna" in Amharic) is known as Coffee Arabica to the international world. Coffee is believed to be discovered by a shepherd whose name is "Kaldi" Coffee, Ethiopia’s biggest export item, is not only important economically but also it has significant social importance. Ethiopians enjoy their coffee with a traditional ceremony which takes about an hour. It is mainly held for getting together and share information informally. Ethiopian Coffee Ceremony is usually hosted by a woman Putting fresh green grass on the ground, burning Frankincense, roasting the coffee in front of guests, presenting the smoke (aroma) to guests as a sign of being a welcoming host, poundin
